When I was in NYC last week I went into Madewell and was obsessed with all their chocolate brown and burgundy pieces. I’ve been loving their bags for years – they are such great quality and a nice middle price point. Not as expensive as designer but a step up from lower priced brands. The quality is amazing and when you can snag them on sale like right now, its the best deal!

This bag is one of my top favs and it came home with me! The shape is such a good large size tote and it reminds me a lot of my Celine bag…for a fraction of the price!! This bag is seriously stunning – I’m obsessed! Also loving these straight leg skinner dark jeans. Paired with my black loafers and this new stripe sweater (so soft!) One of my favorite posts from the good old blog days were the monthly list of family winter bucket list activity ideas so I’ve been so excited to resurrect it! Started with some ideas to add to your family winter bucket list – some of the would be great with kids, others could work as date night activities too. Comment any other of your favorite winter bucket list activities or traditions below so we can keep it rolling. 🙂

1. Snow sports! Whether you’re a seasoned skier or snowboarder or it’s the bunny slopes for you, pencil in a day at the ski resorts! No matter your skill level, anyone could enjoy a little apres ski anyway.
2. Find and participate in a Sub for Santa or charity in some way. This is one of our favorite family traditions, especially being able to involve the kids in it. You never know how someone might be struggling during the holidays and there are so many cool charities and foundations already set up to find a way to help. Pick one and see how it completely changes your mood!
3. Get crafty! This one is great for all ages – there are endless craft ideas to make this winter a little cozier. I loved this idea on Tiktok of painting your own gingerbread house door mat – genius! Would be so cute as a girl’s night activity too. And there are so many gorgeous craft ideas for holiday decor, from Christmas ornaments to garland. With younger kids it will still have that cute, personal keepsake feel to it but you’d be surprised as kids get older how artistic they become – sometimes crafts turn out like something you would pay big bucks for in-store!
4. Hot chocolate bar. This one is great with the kids – they will love getting creative with toppings and will probably enjoy the opportunity to go all out haha. Pair it with a cozy wintry move and bundle up in some warm blankets for a fun family memory.
5. Become a hockey fan. Okay granted there are plenty of sports you can enjoy during the winter, but Salt Lake just got an NHL team so seems like no better time than the present to start to pay attention to the sport haha. I have a feeling the boys would become addicted fast.
6. Have a family bake-off. On those days where nobody feels like leaving the house, get creative with a bake-off! It will be a great way to get creative in the kitchen and hopefully the outcome will be pretty tasty too 🙂
7. Host a ‘favorite things’ party instead of your typical white elephant or Secret Santa gift exchange. Everyone brings x number of their favorite things (usually within a lower budget since they’ll bring one for every guest in attendance) – have fun getting to know each other on a whole new level and go home with some tried and true favorites.
8. Gratitude journals. This is another tradition we’ve tried to keep up as a family. Especially around Thanksgiving, it’s a great reminder to document the many, many things we have to be thankful for. And it’s crazy, you never seem to run out of things to add to the list once you put yourself in that mindset.
9. Book a photographer. Whether you are in the habit of sending out Christmas or holiday cards every year or not, let this be your reminder to book some pictures! Typically the lighting is a little more forgiving in the winter since it tends to be more overcast, so bundle up in some cute, coordinated layers and get candid for some updated photos! Some of my favorites are from our photoshoots in the snow. If that’s not in the budget, set up your own festive backdrop for some equally memorable family photos. 🙂
10. Take advantage of the seasonal events. This time of year, there are usually sooo many for all ages – Disney on Ice, community plays or musicals, talented musicians touring. Even if it’s outside your normal comfort zone, it’s something you may never do again and that’s just one cool experience you would never have had otherwise.
11. Have a gingerbread decorating competition. I swear half the candy gets eaten before it makes it onto the house (and then the other half of the candy after the house gets done haha) but it’s such a fun tradition, with friends or family alike.
12. Hit a winter market. So many creators and entrepreneurs work all year long in preparation of winter markets and selling their wares for Christmas presents. And you can find so many personal, breathtaking pieces that you would never find in store. Make a point to check out a winter market near you and support local artists – and also feel like you’re starring in a Hallmark Christmas movie haha.

Here are some of the best hacks I found for pulling off the ultimate 4th of July party. Don’t feel like you need to incorporate all of them! Even just adding 1 or 2 will add a fun, festive touch to your holiday weekend.

Hack #1: Color-Coordinated Cuisine

To create a festive spread, I knew I wanted to stick to a red-white-and-blue color-scheme for all the snacks. It made it so much easier to make everything flow together and stick to the festive 4th of July theme. I went to Sam’s Club and knew the fruit would be easy with all the red and blue berries, but I was surprised at how many other red/white/blue snacks and candies they had for the upcoming holiday – especially when it comes to the ‘sweets’ spread which I’ll share later. 😉

Hack #2: It’s All In The Details

I’m always a sucker for the details at any event I attend, so I knew I wanted to include some cute, festive details wherever I could. Try using mini cookie-cutters to spell out words in watermelon or cheese. We also used the star cookie cutters from this set for the cheese and sprinkled them throughout the 4th of July charcuterie. I had a local company from Utah help me and they made the most beautiful salami roses! My aunt actually tried to teach me a couple years ago at the lake, just use the rim of a glass and stagger them while layering them around the rim to get that perfect round shape.

Hack #3: Sparklers, But Sweet

We made some fruit sparklers for the kids out of watermelon stars and blueberries for some healthy treat options. They look so cute on their own but we also added to the red-white-and-blue drinks we made for an added festive touch.

Hack #4: Let the Festivities Flow

DETAILS: GLASSES

Whether kid-friendly or adult beverages, drinks are a great excuse to go big for the holiday. We set up a drink table for the kids where they got to assemble their own drinks. I set out red, white, and blue Gatorade and Sprite for the base and then set out Kool-aid ice cubes, cotton candy, popsicles, licorice straws, and fresh fruits so they could get creative.

Hack #5: Don’t Skimp On The Sweets

My kids would eat candy all day every day if I let them so they were in heaven when they saw this full candy spread AND the decadent s’mores bar. I’m glad my affinity for going over the top with these sort of things won me some points. 😉 They kept saying it was the best 4thof July spread ever. 😂 We did a candy charcuterie board with all the red, white, and blue finds from Sam’s Club and was so simple to put together. We also did a s’mores bar for our new fire pit area and did a mix of different chocolates – milk chocolate, cookies and cream, Reese’s, Andes mints, and more. The dessert boards were such a cute addition and were super popular with the whole fam!

First on Cody’s Father’s Day wishlist this year was a new pair of basketball shoes since he gets so much use out of them. I picked out some splurge-worthy Father’s Day gift ideas too. I loved the idea of a pizza oven for the backyard – would be such a fun activity for the kids to do with Cody. I am also obsessed with the idea of this floating golf turf! We don’t really golf but I feel like all of my friends husbands do, and even though we don’t really know what we’re doing I could see us having hours of fun getting competitive with this at the pool or lake. Our family easter pictures are always one of my favorites of the year – with 6 people, getting a family pic with coordinated outfits can be rare 😂 so I always get excited for our family Easter outfits. I feel like the kids are all finding their own style, this year more than ever, and we are all obsessed with Nike Dunks right now so I thought it would be fun to embrace the color this year, especially with our shoe game. Every holiday I look forward to doing a cute craft with the kids. Honestly we love crafts year round, but the holidays always bring out the cutest craft sets and I was instantly obsessed when I found this wooden egg painting kit for Easter! Next thing I knew I was setting up a little craft tablescape to do with the kids– Ollie couldn’t wait to paint some of his eggs 😂 but we saved the other half to paint once Mara, Wes, and Beckam got home that day. I set out a few snacks and treats for the kids and it turned into such a fun afternoon.

The craft kit itself is so perfect for any age. It comes with the cutest egg carton and paint set. Ollie got a little hands on with them and I love how they turned out even as a 2 year old! It makes a great keepsake to remember that age by. The older kids loved it too – it’s so fun to see their art skills and creativity develop. 💜 I also love the idea as an adult if you want a specific color scheme or pattern to decorate for Easter while letting your creativity out at the same time.

My dad used to make me pancakes almost every morning when I was in school. He would do fun shapes and letters. As an adult I don’t know how he did it, he’s super dad! I love making breakfast foods but we are usually running out the door eating breakfast in the car a lot of the times haha. Come weekends though I always make a good breakfast on Sundays, and leading up to holidays I like to do themes. Valentine’s is one of my favorites because you know how much I love the pink color scheme 😉

I saw this idea online so I ordered some food coloring, berries, sprinkles, and a few other details on Walmart+ to save me a trip to the store. As much as I wish I was a planner and able to plan out a full grocery list and order once a week, most of the time I’m having last minute ideas like this or I remember something I forgot, so I love being able to order groceries for right when I need them. 

I also got these cute plastic flutes to make a cotton candy mocktail which was no question the kids’ favorite part haha. We added some White Cran-Strawberry juice and a pink sugar rim – loved the idea for a cute, festive kids drink. RECIPE: 

I used Bisquick pancake mix and followed the instructions on the back. I made the first handful of pancakes with just the normal pancake mix, then separated 4 bowls for other colors. I added a couple drops of pink food coloring to the batter. The pink from this set is SO bright and rich, I’m obsessed! You can just eyeball the amount of drops you want to add since it will depend on how big a batch you’re making. Just start with a drop or two and mix to get an idea of the color. A little goes a long way – Then after cooking the next ‘shade’ pancakes, you’ll add a few more drops of the food coloring and repeat. 

You can repeat as many times as you want and go as slowly/gradually as you want but the more you do, the bigger your pancake stack haha. We just did mini stackers because I knew the kids wouldn’t be able to eat that many if they were full sized. I also used this cute little mold (works for pancakes, eggs, etc) that has a circle or heart shaped option. So cute for Valentine’s Day or just to use throughout the year for fun. It also made it so much easier for the stack to do multiple at once. These are AMAZING!! 

We topped with berries, syrup, whipped cream and sprinkles. I also ordered these edible flower petals that would be so pretty for a Valentine’s Day brunch with your partner or even a baby shower/bridal shower brunch. I forgot to put them on when we did this so I’m going to use them when I make it again they are SO PRETTY!!

This baseball hat is probably one of my favorite Valentine’s finds ever. It’s the perfect shade of pink and love the red embroidered graphic. If there’s one holiday hosting hack that I live by, it’s to have your food (and drink!) double as decorations. Nothing brings more ambience to a holiday party than an on-theme spread of food and drinks and it might be easier than you think. From charcuterie boards laid out in wreaths to festive-shaped desserts, or festive drinks bring the holiday spirit to your table spread for your holiday gatherings.

Drinks are a super easy way to set the vibe for a holiday party. One of my favorite mocktail recipes is mixing pomegranate juice with a sparkling cider and adding pomegranate seeds and a sprig of rosemary for a festive touch. I always get tons of compliments on how good it turns out – it’s hard to believe it only takes 2 seconds haha. To dress the drink up even more, try a gold-rimmed glass like these.

Now let’s talk outfits- for an extra holiday hosting outfit hack – one of the easiest pieces to take your look from ‘typical Friday night’ to ‘Festive’ is an embellished headband. Headbands are one of the hottest accessories this season. I found this cute white beaded one at Kohl’s (on sale under $10 right now!) and love how much it adds to a simple fuzzy cardigan and jeans look. This year I wanted to try adding thin velvet ribbon in the tree which I’ve never really done before so I’ve been on the hunt for some pretty ribbon to try to bring my idea to life. I found this blonde color and ivory color ribbon from Amazon and they are both soooo pretty I’m going to use for wrapping presents and then this beautiful black velvet ribbon I used on our our tree and wreaths. Excited to see how it turns out! Sticking to my neutral theme I also found these cute multi-color velvet ornaments from Target that come in a full set. – the pictures don’t do it justice at all, otherwise I would have ordered multiple. The colors are soooo pretty together and feel really high-end.

For the first time I can remember, I’m actually feeling ahead of the curve with Christmas shopping this year. I still have a few people left on my list – it seems like every year it’s the same few that are the hardest to shop for haha. A lot of you guys have said the toughest people to shop for are parents/in-laws so I wanted to put together a few of my favorite gift ideas for parents. I feel like with parents, they’ve usually accumulated enough ‘stuff’ over the years so I like to focus less on tangibles and more on experiences or services that will make their life just a little easier. I feel like the excitement of experiences usually beats the excitement of just having something to open so I love the idea of more experience or service-focused gifts, plus they usually make for more unique gift ideas you maybe have thought of before.

PEACE OF MIND WITH A HOME SECURITY SYSTEM

SimpliSafe: My parents are building a house right up the street from us so they’ll be splitting time between Montana and Utah. I wanted to get them a security system for their new house so they could have peace of mind while they are away. After doing a little digging, I landed on SimpliSafe – it gets amazing reviews, and has options to protect everything from burglary to water damage, freeze, and more. The install is super easy (which is a must because the last thing I wanted to do is give my dad another chore when he’s so busy already). It’s also a super clean look so it blends in with decor. Take luxury to the next level and organize and in-home massage for your parents. There’s nothing more relaxing than rolling out of a massage bed and into your own bed after a long day. Cody and I have used Zeel before – you can select what type of massage, what pressure, etc to make sure you get a massage you’ll love. One year I actually got Cody a massage table for Christmas one year so we could do our own at-home massages so it could work as a good gift ideas for your S/O too.

THE GIFT OF TIME

Walmart+/Grocery Subscription: One of my most used services (I literally use it multiple times a week haha) is my grocery delivery subscription. I use Walmart+ and Target Same Day Delivery and they are probably the single best investment I’ve made this year based on how often I use it. It saves so much time going back and forth from the store, especially when I realize I forgot an ingredient, and has ended up being the move convenient thing ever. Love this idea for parents – another thing you know will make their life a little easier that doesn’t end up gathering dust on a shelf.

THE GIFT OF A CLEAN HOUSE

Nothing gets me feeling more frazzled than a messy house so I always look forward to when we have someone come deep clean our house.  I feel like whenever I attempt to do it myself, by the time I finish cleaning one room, the last one is already a mess haha. Give your parents an extra special treat and splurge on a cleaning service or gift card so they can schedule a deep clean – maybe after your kids have been at their house over the holidays, before they are hosting a get together, or just to catch up after the busy holiday season. If you don’t think a professional cleaning service is their cup of tea, this UV sanitizing wand is a great way to give the same clean feel that they can use for years to come.

THIE GIFT OF MAKING NEW MEMORIES

Vrbo Trip together: There have been multiple years where instead of tangible gifts, my parents have taken our whole family on a trip. It always ends up being one of my favorite gifts, so we ended up going the same a few years. Those trips have been some of my favorite family memories together and it’s a gift you’ll remember for years to come. Nothing beats making new memories together ❤️. We love Vrbo for family trips, especially to be able to have game nights or movie night all in the same space instead of splitting up into individual hotel rooms. THE GIFT OF A PRE-PLANNED DATE NIGHT

Plan an epic date night for your parents that they will remember for years. It could be tickets to a cool event in their area, a gift card to a new restaurant they would love, or you can jump on Tripadvisor to get some ideas for creative activities in your area that are outside the box. Cody and I love doing new things together but sometimes we all need a little push to actually make it happen. For a date night that doesn’t require as much planning, you could get a cute date night in a box – something seasonal like this one or this cold-case mystery box for the crime podcast lovers.

We all have those people on our list who are impossible to shop for. The ones who already own everything they need, some who live a more minimalist lifestyle, and others who buy things for themselves the second they think of it so you never get a chance 😂. Anyone else have people like that on their list? I think parents are especially hard to shop for where they feel like they already have everything they need.

We signed up for Walmart+ membership this year and it’s made me realize what a great gift idea it is. It’s unlimited free delivery ($35 order minimum. Restrictions apply) for fresh groceries and more straight to your door with free shipping (Excludes most Marketplace items, location & freight surcharges). It’s so convenient – whether you’re a meal planner or are more last minute about picking out groceries, or for any impromptu holiday gatherings this season.

The kids have really started to love cooking/baking recently and I thought putting together a little charcuterie wreath would be so cute so we just ordered a few things we didn’t have on hand and it was here within hours. (You can also schedule delivery for the following week if you know you’ll need things by a specific day but want the produce to be fresh.)

It’s also a lifesaver when you forget an ingredient or something you need ASAP and you don’t have time to run to the grocery story – best time saver ever haha.  They have the annual membership for under $100 so it’s such an easy gift idea for convenience and saving time and errands.
