One of my favorite trends right now is denim beyond your jeans. Wearing denim in unexpected ways is huge this fall. I’m all about a chance to wear denim any way I can, from skirts and dresses to your classic denim jacket or button-up. It is an ultimate neutral for fall so denim makes for endless layering options and is also a great base. You can go all out layering denim on denim and use all your favorite fall tones as contrast.

Denim and burgundy look so pretty together but instead of a basic sweater with jeans, think of new ways to wear denim and other ways you can tie in color with your accessories beyond your bag and shoes. Here are 4 of my favorite ways to add color for the season:

  1. Neck-ccessories: Bandanas are such a fresh twist you can add to amp your you look by tying it around your neck or knotting it around your bag for an interesting detail. I love this burgundy color for fall and found so many more great color options at American Eagle (love this navy one and how pretty is this pink print?).
  2. Bold lip: Lip color is another subtle way to bring in jewel tones to offset a denim-on-denim ensemble – I love a pretty berry or plum lip or nail color for fall!
  3. Feminine layers: Instead of layering colors over your denim look, switch things up and layer some color underneath your look with a bralette or bodysuit. I love Aerie’s bralette selection (BOGO 50% through 8/2). They have so many pretty colors and styles. Nothing makes you feel prettier than a flirty bralette  – even if you are the only one that sees it! (Although they might be too pretty to keep covered up :). I love the back detail on this one!
  4. Bomber: Jackets are always a fail-safe accessory — it’s a layer you can wear, tie around your waist, or ditch altogether so it works as more of an accent. I’ve always loved the bomber silhouette and this varsity style is so good! I love the sporty, sleek look so much I had to have it in both burgundy and black.

Below are a few more musts for fall, whether you’re revamping your closet for back to school or just need a few pieces to update your fall wardrobe. You can also BOGO 50% on aerie bras and bralettes and AEO denim

Christine

Absolutely a wise way to balance out a denim on denim look. A slight piece of accessory can enhance the overall style and draw the focus on the complete combined look. Simply beautiful! 🙂

I love all your tips! I love to add colour to my denim looks by adding a cool scarf, maybe as a bracelet or as a belt even! It’s also so fun to play with adding some textures as it gets colder!

    Christine!

This post is so helpful, especially for someone who battles with wearing denim on denim without it looking like too much! I love the bandana and bomber jacket combo!
