4 Unexpected Ways To Wear Sweater Dresses

fresh ways to wear a sweater dress

Sweater dresses are one of my favorite pieces for fall – not only do they make for the perfect one-and-done fall look, they are also super versatile! I have this one in multiple colors – it’s super cozy and just the right fit, plus under $100. I got a size large so it was oversized and longer. Here are 4 unexpected ways to style your sweater dresses this season.

DATE NIGHT DETAILS: CAMEL SWEATER DRESS | 1. CAMEL COAT (UNDER $100) | 2. OCTAGON SUNGLASSES | 3. NUDE LIP GLOSS (SHADE: HALLUCINATION – HAVE THIS ONE AND LOVE!)| 4. FAUX LEATHER DUFFEL | 5. LONG WHITE BUTTON TUNIC (UNDER $100) | 6. KNEE-HIGH BOOTS (UNDER $100) | 7. GOLD RING SET | 8. GOLD SIGNET RING

OVER AN OVERSIZED BUTTON-UP

One of the freshest ways to style your sweater dress is over a button-up, oversized tunic. I love the look of the white button up hanging out the hem! (Could also work with some of your longer, oversized sweaters.) Add some knee-high boots (can’t believe this pair is under $100!) and an oversized bag for a high-end feel (extra points for a monochromatic look!). I also just got this gloss and love the shade of nude! So good! Altogether, it’s the perfect fall date night look.

TUCK IT

WEEKEND STYLE: CAMEL SWEATER DRESS | 1. PLAID SHACKET | 2. BLACK BASEBALL HAT (UNDER $10) | 3. BLACK BELT | 4. DISTRESSED DENIM (UNDER $100) | 5. RED LIPSTICK (SHADE: RITA) | 6. WHITE HIGH-TOP NIKES | 7. SUNGLASSES (ON SALE 15% OFF)  | 8. MINI-BUCKET BAG

Make your sweater dresses work double time by tucking the hem into your denim and wearing them as an oversized sweater. It’s a super cozy, carefree look perfect for the weekend or just running errands. I am so obsessed with this pair that I got them in both colors – super flattering fit, the perfect wash, and under $100. For a more casual look, throw on some high-top sneakers and a baseball cap. Or to kick it up a notch, you can add a pretty belt (love the asymmetric hardware on this one!) and a pretty leather mini handbag (obsessed with this brand’s – need!).

UNDER A LEATHER MINI

BRUNCH DETAILS: CAMEL SWEATER DRESS | 1. FAUX LEATHER MINI SKIRT (UNDER $100) | 2. WOOL COAT | 3. SUNGLASSES | 4. MIX N MATCH EARRINGS (UNDER $50) | 5. WHITE TOTE | 6. NAIL POLISH (SHADE: THUNDER ROAD) | 7. TAN HEADBAND | 8. WHITE ANKLE BOOTIE

One of my favorite combos for fall is knits and leather! For thinner-knit sweater dresses, throw on a leather skirt (obsessed with this one under $100 – the pockets + color are so good!). It’s another unexpected pairing and can be so chic when done right. Finish it off with a leather ankle bootie and you’re ready for brunch with the girls. Also love the idea of leather paper-bag shorts with tights!

SHACKETED UP

FALL FESTIVITIES LOOK: CAMEL SWEATER DRESS | 1. GREY SHACKET (UNDER $100 – SIMILAR HERE)| 2. NAIL POLISH (SHADE: MID-DAY MOCHA) | 3. KNIT BEANIE (UNDER $50) | 4. NUDE COMBAT BOOT | 5. RUFFLED SOCKS (2-PACK) | 6. TAN MINI SHOULDER BAG | 7. LEOPARD FACE MASK (3-PACK FACE MASKS) | 8. GOLD HOOPS (UNDER $25)

This might be one of my favorite looks. I’m allllll about the shackets this fall! They are selling out so fast everywhere so clearly I’m not alone haha. I love it layered over a sweater dress and with a chunky knit beanie for a cozy, casual look. These nude combat boots are such a pretty color to bring in some nude tones to your fall wardrobe and I love the idea of these ruffled socks paired with them! Also how cute is this mini shoulder bag!? I am in love!!

What do you guys think? Which pairing is more your style? Below are some other fall pieces I’ve been eyeing lately:

  1. I love sweater dresses! They’re so versatile, that you can wear them in many ways. I alwyas loved the look of a sweater dress with knee-high boots. However, I do love the look of seeing one over a lace slip or a lace dress. I think that’s a cute look, especially for holidays and special occasions.
