Style Resolutions

Stripe Dress | Nike Sneakers | Sunglasses | Michael Kors Cross Body

When Target challenged me to consider my style resolutions for the upcoming year, I didn’t think twice. I am a full believer in setting goals. Cody I have a journal we write down our personal, financial, and random goals we want to achieve over the year. When it came to my closet here were my top five:

  •  Take better care of my clothing: I recently forgot to spray a pair of shoes with the water and stain protectant before I took them out in the snow and completely ruined them. Grrr! Sometimes in the excitement of making an addition to my wardrobe I get too impatient and just throw them on the second I open the box, but I need to remember to take the time to care for it properly before, during, and after. I also want to start getting some of my pieces tailored. I love the oversized laid back look, but this year I want to take some of my favorite pieces to get them altered for the perfect fit.
  •  Trend to try: I have never hesitated pairing sneakers with a nice sweater or blouse, but this year I set a goal to make even my dressier looks more functional by pairing more unique pieces together i.e sneakers and a dress (already have this one) to get that sporty minimalism look.
  •  Give my feet a break: Since B has gradually become more mobile I have noticed a shift in my wardrobe. I hate to admit it, but it’s become fewer heels and a lot more sneakers. Although I will never give up my heels, I plan to give my feet a break by wearing sneakers and flat boots (or at least boots with lower heels if I can’t help myself 🙂
  • Get organized: Yikes this one scares me! My closet is a hot mess no less than 90% of the time but I am hoping to turn over a new leaf this year.
  • Stop hoarding: Instead of waiting for spring cleaning, I have already jumpstarted this resolution by majorly dejunking. I am setting a goal this year to minimize what I have and to get rid of what I have already accumulated that doesn’t get used. If you haven’t worn it in the last year – let it go! You won’t wear it!

It isn’t too late to set your own style resolutions if you haven’t already.

After your list of practical ‘should-dos’, throw in some fun resolutions. They might be a little easier to stick to than the rest. 😛 Start by paying attention to the styles you are drawn to and figure out ways to make them your own.

What are some of your New Year’s style resolutions?

XOX,
Christine

Love these resolutions! Very practical and great goals to work towards. Especially hoarding I’m so bad about that! Xo

De-junking? What do I have to do to get you to de-junk my way? I would die for your leftovers! Seriously, if you plan on getting rid of some things, e-mail me back and I would gladly pay shipping to take them off of your hands. You are my style guru.

^^ Um, yes. What Mackenzie said! Ha. I had a baby this past May and followed you all during your pregnancy for preggo style inspiration as well. Would love to scoop up/purchase your pieces you are ready to let go of.

Great post – love these resolutions! As a stay at home mom to a 6 yr old and 3 yr old, you begin to embrace the beauty of a ballet flat, flat boot (maybe even a wedge boot or wedge in the summer!), and some cute casual sneakers. I save the heels for date nights but honestly, now that I’m on the other side of being with my girls most of the time, the time for wearing heels more often will come back! I just consider myself lucky to have such great practical options for flats. And I sell a lot of my clothes on ebay. It’s a lot more fun to get rid of old items to make room for new ones and make a little bit of money in the process. 🙂

Definitely with you in the hoarding! I’d love for you to write about what works for you when it comes to organization!!

I think my resolution would be to get out of sweat pants more often and put some thought into what I’m wearing more often. I have more heels than flats but I never wear them because of being with the kiddies. I’m excited to see what you come up with for outfits with flat shoes/tennis shoes. Also, I’d love to see what you are de-junking and maybe give it a new home!

    great resolutions…
Mine has been to declutter for years and years now… it’s taking a really long time but it’s really hard. I want a very minimal closet so it’s pretty radical. The most difficult part is getting rid of perfectly good things. I’d rather sell them, at least that gives me a reason to part with them.

Love the pink beanie and tie dress! And the 3 pack toddler mittens are on clearance. My boys love them, and lose them! Online only. Thanks C!

I love your NY resolutions! I’m more of a 5 year plan kind of girl 🙂 Love the selection on the photo, especially the striped dress and the bag!

I love this! It’s such a great resolution all on its own.

    YES!! Great resolutions, Christine.

I’m with you on those. My (style) resolution is to ‘buy quality over quantity’. I love a good sale but I want to start investing in a few quality pieces and stop being such a slave to a great deal/cheap crap 😛

I’m on the same page; I definitely have some of the same goals.
Do you have a shop where you sell your used clothing? I’d love to be a customer!
